Washerman by Vibes And Pepper Records
» Washerman
Washerman is the solo project of Gianni Siravo who used to record as one half of the amazing Azuni.
Gianni started getting in to dance music back in 1989 at the tender age of 14 spending his
formative years learning how to mix whilst hanging out with his friends who were older resident DJs
in his hometown of Zurich, Switzerland. Fascinated by electronic music and vinylculture,
a young Gianni knew this was what he wanted to do with his life.
Coming from a poor Italian immigrant working class family he could not affordturntables or vinyl,
until one day one of his older friends passed on to him a spare box of acid house and dance vinyl
and some older vinyl decks. Gianni practiced hard and was soon playing several local parties
and spending every bit of money he earned on his vinyl addition. He was soon seduced by the sounds of Chicago,
New York and Detroit and collected as much house, deep house and techno as he could afford.
By the age of 18 Gianni realised he wanted to make his own beats and bought himself a 303, an 808
and copy of Cubase on his Atari. Although a basic set up, Gianni soon found his niche and after years
of making minimal acid tracks he slowly started to play at Zurichísbest parties during the flourishing ë90s underground House scene.
As Gianni was a versatile DJ he used to play all types of music from House to Detroit Techno
to Disco to 70s & 80s to Hip Hop and Soul and Funk and everything in between.
Gianni was a knowledgeable selector so was in big demand and by the last 90s he was starting to experiment with new sounds and got heavily in to producing Jazz, Funk and Soul making a kind of
Jazz Soul fusion with electronic music which got him a lot of attention. His tracks and remixes
started to become successful leading to him touring Europe regularly with his popular Fusion sound
and label leading to a dream hook up with the Metalheadz and big performances at the Sonar music festival in Barcelona in 2006. Although he found success with this new sound, his heart was still
always with house and back in 2006 he hooked up with his friend to create Azuni which was a
project aimed at bringing back real house music to the younger generation.
From their early releases on the excellent Drumpoet Community label, Azuni gained huge success and created a huge global fan base with several huge releases and remixes. Gianni subsequently ended his Azuni project in 2011 to pursue his own solo project as Washerman. With a couple of huge tracks and remixes under his belt, his new Washerman project is in huge demand with Gianni back to creating some amazing, unique, original new music. Off the back of his Washerman project Gianni kicked off his exciting new label called Deep Down Slam aimed at releasing different flavours of housemusic and staying true to his original house roots. Keep an eye out for Washerman and Deep Down Slam, the best is yet to come!
