What DJ Minx loves most about her musical profession is that it allows her to fuse with some of the world’s most talented people. Inspired to spin by the famed Music Institute in Detroit, she quickly developed her own style – described as funky and powerful with a smudge of grace.
In the early 90s, Minx partnered with Jerry the Cat and Dana Keaton to develop the Skyloft Gallery which provided an exceptional opportunity for Minx to program innovative events showcasing Detroit’s underground community of artists, musicians, DJs, and designers. Minx now runs Skyloft Productions LLC, a production company developed with Jerrald James, which is a vehicle to produce music and media for various artists in multiple genres.
Every Saturday night for two years, Minx engineered and hosted “Deep Space Radio”, an electronic music show on a Detroit’s WGPR radio station. The show was headed by the innovators of techno music: Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Eddie Fowlkes, and Derrick May.
She played mixes by many well-respected Detroit DJs and conducted live interviews on the show. Minx also did a weekly radio program at the University of Windsor. “Steamy Windows” on CJAM 91.5 FM featured house music by various local and international artists. Minx was a resident of the world-renowned Club Motor where she banged opening sets for Basement Jaxx, Doc Martin, Cajmere, and Afrika Bambatta just to name a few. She has played alongside Richie Hawtin, John Acquiviva, and Timmy Regisford at various venues across the country.
Minx has also shared her love of house music with massive crowds in Paris, Berlin, Cancun, New York, Switzerland, Tokyo, Spain, Belgium and numerous other domestic and international locales. Minx was also a featured performer at the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival (D.E.M.F.) in May 2000 (with over 1 million people in attendance). Since then, she’s played at Toronto’s Film Lounge, Club Ohm in Portland, Club Sugar in Baltimore, Air in Japan and has been featured on Much Music’s Electric Circus weekly television Dance Show.
